Haji Wright to Face Up to 12 Weeks Out with Quad Injury, Confirms Coventry Manager
Coventry City striker Haji Wright will be sidelined for as long as 12 weeks due to a quad injury, according to manager Frank Lampard, who provided the update on Wednesday.
“He won’t be available for a little while, he’s got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us,” Lampard stated. “It’s certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks.”
Wright, 28, missed out on participating in Coventry’s final preseason friendlies against Espanyol and Monaco. He ended the last season with 17 goals, finishing third in scoring and achieving double digits in goals for the third consecutive year in the Championship.
This injury poses a significant challenge for the Sky Blues as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League campaign. Coventry secured automatic promotion by winning the Championship last season and has not appeared in the Premier League since the 2000-01 season.
The team will kick off its Premier League match on Friday against reigning champions Arsenal.
Wright’s potential absence could also prevent him from joining the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) for their upcoming friendlies during the first international break at the end of September. The Americans are scheduled to host Peru in Orlando on Sept. 25, Chile in St. Louis on Sept. 29, Mexico in Arizona on Oct. 3, and Canada in Minnesota on Oct. 6.
Wright has previously been a member of the USMNT for the World Cup teams in 2022 and will also be eligible for the 2026 tournament. He played in all four matches during the Qatar World Cup but had limited opportunities in two games during the recent summer tournament.
Following the September-October international window, the USMNT will reconvene in November for the Concacaf Nations League.

The injury is a blow to the Sky Blues, who won the Championship last season to earn automatic promotion. Coventry, a founding member of England’s top division, were last a part of the Premier League during the 2000-01.
