Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott has finalized his transfer from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar to Spanish side Real Betis.

Both clubs announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement for the move, which includes a five-year contract for Parrott that extends until 2031.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that the two teams were in advanced talks over a €20 million (£17.1 million) agreement for the Irish forward.

West Ham had also been rumored to be interested in acquiring the 24-year-old player, who embarked on his professional journey at Tottenham.

Parrott joined AZ Alkmaar in July 2024 from Spurs, after spending the previous season on loan at fellow Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam.

He had a remarkable start to last season, netting 10 goals in his first seven matches, but a knee ligament injury sustained in late August sidelined him until October.

Despite the setback, Parrott concluded the Dutch league season with 16 goals in 28 appearances and made notable contributions on the international stage, aiding the Republic of Ireland in securing qualification for the World Cup play-offs.

In November of last year, he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Portugal and followed that with a hat-trick, including a dramatic 96th-minute winner, in a 3-2 triumph against Hungary.

His performance made him the first Republic of Ireland player to achieve a hat-trick in an away match for the men’s team, and the first to record a competitive treble since Robbie Keane in 2014.

Having earned 37 caps, Parrott is expected to play a crucial role for Heimir Hallgrimsson’s squad in the upcoming Nations League, where Ireland will compete against Kosovo, Austria, and Israel in Group B3.

Last season, Real Betis finished fifth in La Liga, securing their place in the Champions League.

Real Betis finished fifth in La Liga in the 2025-26 season, meaning that they qualified for the Champions League.
