Newcastle United Faces Challenges as Manager Jaissle Remains Hopeful

Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle discussed the mood in the dressing room following a recent match, noting that “Their heads are a little down but we know we had many challenges; we’re in a huge transition phase at the moment.”

On the penalty awarded during the game: “A really soft one, if you give that they’ll be more in the future. I’m not a fan of that.”

Regarding the team’s transition: “It’s a brave project, but I like the challenge of working with young lads. They were tired; Lewis Miley just came back from an injury, but they did an amazing job. It’s just about getting adapted to the league.”

Jaissle also shared his thoughts on the Premier League: “The crowd here is unbelievable, and the quality is unmatched. Every change can be decisive, and it’s something I really enjoy. We’re clear in our approach, and you can adjust in the game if you plan ahead.”

On potential transfer activity, Jaissle added: “I hope so. Today, the lads were amazing. It’s a young squad, but we have some needs we know internally, and we keep that internally. You can count them on one hand.”

Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga commented to BBC Match of the Day: “Mixed emotions. It was a good performance, but I’m disappointed to concede the way we did in the final seconds. To think the manager [Matthias Jaissle] has been here for just three weeks, and we played like that out there. It’s important we take the positives from this game and apply them in the next game.”

Elanga reflected on scoring at St James’ Park: “Relief. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve been working hard for these moments, especially in the summer and after the World Cup. I wanted to work on my game and took that opportunity. It was the first shot of the game. It was a moment I really wanted to take. The whole team played really well. If we can apply ourselves like that every single week, we are going to have a fantastic season.”

On Jaissle’s impact: “The manager has been top since he came in. The way he wants us to play is clear, both on and off the ball. When we go, we really go for it. We could’ve finished off this game earlier as we created a lot of opportunities. But it’s the first game. There are still 37 games left in the Premier League.”

Elanga shared his experience under Jaissle: “It feels fun. Hopefully, it looks fun for those watching. When I am on the pitch, I feel really good, and that’s the way I always want to feel. Thanks to the manager and his staff for instilling that in me and the rest of the team.”
