Headline: Chelsea Engages in Transfer Talks for Atalanta Defender Honest Ahanor
Chelsea Football Club is currently in discussions to secure the services of Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. The Blues have shown interest in the 18-year-old Italian following their recent acquisition of right-back Marco Palestra from the Serie A club in July.
BBC Sport has reported that Atalanta is open to selling Ahanor, provided that their asking price of 40 million euros (£34.3 million) is met. Ahanor, who primarily operates as a left-back, joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer on a three-year contract that was reportedly valued at 16 million euros, with an additional 4 million euros in potential add-ons.
Last season, Ahanor made 28 appearances in Serie A for Atalanta, becoming a key player for the Italian team. He also marked his Champions League debut with a performance in a 2-1 victory against Club Brugge in September.
In May, he received a call-up from the Italian national team for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece.
Chelsea’s head coach Xabi Alonso has been actively forming his squad since taking over at Stamford Bridge in July. Notable signings include England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club record of £117 million, along with seasoned Premier League players Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.
The club will be looking to build on their momentum as they prepare to host Brighton in their next Premier League match on Sunday, following a solid start to their season with a 3-2 win over Fulham in their opener on Monday.
