Frank Lampard Discusses Upcoming Match Against Hull City

Coventry boss Frank Lampard addressed the media ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Hull City at CBS Arena, scheduled for a 15:00 BST kick-off.

Below are the highlights from his news conference:

    • On the signing of Ethan Pinnock from Brentford: “He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time. Lots of Premier League experience at a very good club. He strengthens the squad.”

    • Lampard acknowledged that they learned valuable lessons from their opening defeat to Arsenal, stating, “to give some credit, it was – for a lot of them – their first Premier League game”. He emphasized the need to move on, remarking, “We competed to a level, but we can do better and we will do better going forward.”

    • Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming match against Hull, he said he hopes to see his team “play with the energy and intensity” that characterized their home performance last season.

    • Regarding Hull, he commented: “You can’t disrespect Hull because they’ve just beaten Manchester United in their first game and they will be feeling very good about themselves. It is a different challenge to what Arsenal was.”

    • He mentioned that while “there’s an expectation that we can compete” against Hull and that they may be seen as the favorites, he will “never talk Hull down” due to their potential threat.

    • On the support of fans, he said: “After 25 years, and knowing how our fans are, I expect them to be electric in every game.”

    • Speaking about goalkeeper Oliver Dovin, Lampard noted that “it is possible” Dovin could be sent out on loan for regular playing time, stating, “He’s a very talented goalkeeper. He’s fine, but he’s not played many minutes. That’s why we’re analyzing over the next couple of days to see if there’s a good option for him to play regularly.”

    • Lampard also discussed facing Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup, describing it as “an exciting draw and to be at home is great for us. It’s the derby feel and factor. I know of it, but I’ve not lived it so I’m sure it will be an electric night. I’m excited for when it comes.”
