Roma CEO John Galantic expressed excitement for the upcoming Champions League matches, emphasizing that the team is eager to take on formidable opponents. In a recent interview with Sky Sport Italia, Galantic noted the thrill of being drawn against tough competitors, including former managers.

“It’s a great emotion,” he remarked in fluent Italian during the discussion. The Giallorossi will confront two of their former coaches, José Mourinho and Luis Enrique, in the group stage, ramping up the anticipation among fans.

Galantic: Roma Stronger Than Last Season

Galantic acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic. “All teams are difficult. There are some exciting games; it will be fantastic for our fans. We’ll be ready,” he stated.

Reflecting on the club’s ongoing transition, he shared, “I’ve been a Roma fan since I was a kid. For me, this is more than a job. It’s passion.” Galantic described his current role as a “baptism of fire,” managing the transfer market and preparing for the season ahead. “That’s where you create the value. The commercial part is important, but that is like throwing gasoline on a fire. The fire is on the pitch.”

Roma has made several signings this summer, including Santiago Castro, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Rodrigo Mora, and Nahuel Molina. However, reports indicate that Gasperini still seeks a left-footed attacking winger to enhance the team’s depth.

“The winners are always exigent. It’s better this way. We are vigilant. We’ll see if there are opportunities at the end of the transfer window,” Galantic explained.

He emphasized, “Gasperini has said that he’s happy with the team and the players who have arrived. We are stronger than last season.” He highlighted the significance of the upcoming fixtures, stating it’s a crucial moment for Roma, stressing that “Roma must always be in the Champions League.”

In addition to facing Mourinho’s Real Madrid and Enrique’s PSG, Roma will compete against Sporting CP, Manchester United, Lille, Fenerbahce, S. Bratislava, and AEK Athens.

UEFA is expected to announce the complete fixture list for the Champions League group stage by Saturday, August 29.

“I’ll start with the most obvious comment: all teams are difficult. There are some exciting games; it will be so good for our fans. We’ll be ready.”

“It is. But also PSG in Paris, all the games,” Galantic said.

“I’ve been a Roma fan since I was a kid. For me, this is more than a job. It’s passion,” he continued.

Roma have signed Santiago Castro, Konstantinos Koulierakis, Rodrigo Mora and Nahuel Molina this summer, but according to several reports, Gasperini is still waiting for a left-footed attacking winger.

“The winners are always exigent. Better this way. We are vigilant. We’ll see if there are opportunities at the end of the transfer window,” said the Roma director.

“Gasperini has also said that he’s happy with the team and the players who have arrived. We are stronger than last season, and let me add that this is an important moment. Not just for the nice start on Monday, but also for the Champions League, so we have to thank the fans, the coach and the team. It’s an important moment for Roma. Roma must always be in the Champions League.”

UEFA is expected to release the full fixture list for the league phase of the Champions League no later than Saturday, August 29.
