Milan Completes Loan Deal for Santiago Gimenez to FC Porto

Multiple sources confirm that AC Milan has finalized the transfer of Santiago Gimenez to FC Porto, securing a loan deal that includes an option to buy. This option becomes an obligation to purchase for a total of €20 million if certain conditions are fulfilled.

Negotiations for the move had been lengthy, with the Mexico international being informed that he would not be part of coach Ruben Amorim’s plans for the current season. Gimenez expressed a clear preference for a move to Porto, where he enjoys strong support from coach Francesco Farioli. However, finalizing the details of the agreement proved to be a challenging process.

According to information from various sources, including Milan expert Daniele Longo and transfer analysts Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sport Italia, and Sportitalia, the deal was concluded late Saturday night. A pivotal aspect of reaching this agreement involved introducing specific clauses that transform the option to buy into a mandatory agreement, contingent upon the number of matches Gimenez participates in with Porto.

The terms of the deal stipulate that there is no loan fee, with the option to purchase set at €18 million, supplemented by an additional €2 million in potential bonuses. Milan had originally invested more than €30 million to bring Gimenez from Feyenoord in January 2025. However, after a strong initial performance, he struggled due to inconsistent form and injuries, including ankle surgery in December 2025. In total, Gimenez recorded seven goals and six assists across 37 competitive appearances for the Rossoneri.

Multiple sources confirm Milan have agreed the transfer of Santiago Gimenez to FC Porto, on loan with option to buy, becoming an obligation if certain conditions are met for a total of €20m.

The negotiations had been dragging on for a while, with the Mexico international informed he was not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans for this season.

His preferred option was always Porto, where he has a strong admirer in coach Francesco Farioli, but working out the terms proved difficult.

According to sources including Milan expert Daniele Longo, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, the deal was done late Saturday evening.

The key to the breakthrough was introducing clauses making the option to buy into an obligation, with conditions including the number of appearances Gimenez makes for the club.

There is no loan fee, but the option to buy is set at €18m plus €2m add-ons.

Milan had paid over €30m to buy Gimenez from Feyenoord in January 2025, but after an initially strong start, he floundered amid poor form and injuries, including ankle surgery in December 2025.

He leaves the Rossoneri with seven goals and six assists in 37 competitive games.
