Davide Frattesi scored the decisive goal for Lazio, securing a 1-0 win against Genoa in their second Serie A match of the season. The Biancocelesti had a somewhat inconsistent start, facing an early exit from the Coppa Italia against Mantova before clinching a 1-0 win away to Bologna. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso wrestled with an injury crisis, missing key players including Patric, Alessio Romagnoli, Danilo Cataldi, and more. Frattesi, who scored against Bologna, received his first start, with new signing Andrea Pinamonti on the bench and Nuno Tavares returning from injury.

In contrast, Genoa began their season with a defeat, losing 2-0 to Napoli at home. They continue to deal with injuries, missing players such as Hamed Traore, Elias Havel, and more. However, they welcomed new signing Milutin Osmajic, who joined from Preston North End.

The atmosphere at Stadio Olimpico was subdued, with Lazio ultras boycotting home matches in protest against President Claudio Lotito.

Danilho Doekhi sent a corner wide but it was Frattesi again who broke the deadlock. Positioned perfectly, he struck from ten yards after Nuno Tavares made a strong run down the left. Lazio’s injury woes deepened as Nicolò Rovella suffered a calf issue and was substituted for Reda Belahyane.

The duo that created the goal combined once more, with Frattesi crossing from the left for a header by Nuno Tavares that hit the far post.

Mattia Zaccagni attempted to capitalize on a poor back-pass from Alessandro Marcandalli, but goalkeeper Justin Bijlow cleared it in time. Genoa almost equalized when two players missed a chance with a cross from Brooke Norton-Cuffy at the far post. Vitinha saw a potential goal denied by a crucial Doekhi block, while Zaccagni shot just over from outside the box. Doekhi also had a close-range volley that went over after an assist from Gustav Isaksen.

Following a late substitution, Milutin Osmajic had a chance to score just after coming on but shot wide after taking the ball down in the box. Lazio’s Andrea Pinamonti made a late debut and nearly found the net with a close attempt that hit the post. Genoa’s Mandas produced a crucial stop in stoppage time, saving a header from Morten Frendrup right on the goal line.

Genoa opened their season losing 2-0 at home to Napoli, with Hamed Traore, Elias Havel, Franz-Ethan Meichtry and Lorenzo Venturino still on the treatment table, but new buy Milutin Osmajic was in the squad after leaving Preston North End.

The Stadio Olimpico was practically deserted, as the Lazio ultras continue their boycott of home games in protest at President Claudio Lotito.

Mattia Zaccagni tried to pounce on a horrible Alessandro Marcandalli back-pass, only for Justin Bijlow to scramble it clear, then Genoa risked the equaliser when two players failed to connect with the Brooke Norton-Cuffy cross at the back post.

Vitinha was denied by another big Doekhi block, while Zaccagni blasted just over from the edge of the area, but Doekhi should’ve done better when acrobatically volleying over from close range on the Gustav Isaksen assist.

Meichtry came on and should’ve scored within 60 seconds, but fired wide after chesting down the ball to run into the box.

Andrea Pinamonti made his Lazio debut in the final minutes, and nearly scored when he turned on a sixpence to graze the base of the upright.

Mandas was forced to fly in stoppages to fingertip the Morten Frendrup header out from under the bar.
