Manchester United Encounters Financial Hurdles in Pursuit of Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde

Manchester United’s pursuit of Alejandro Balde has hit a snag as the Premier League club believes Barcelona’s asking price for the left-back is excessive. Recent discussions between the two teams occurred on Sunday, facilitated by Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who outlined the terms for a potential transfer to Manchester United.

The English club aims to strengthen their left-back position by initially seeking a loan deal for the Spain international. However, Barcelona has made it clear that they are only open to a permanent transfer if Balde is to leave the club.

Mendes has conveyed to Manchester United that Barcelona prefers a permanent transfer or nothing at this stage. This has resulted in a significant gap between the two clubs, especially since Balde himself wishes to remain with Barcelona.

Barcelona Holds Firm on Balde’s Valuation

Barcelona is not actively pushing Balde out but is receptive to offers. Manchester United feels that the asking price set by Barcelona is too steep. The 22-year-old player is currently under contract until 2028 and is valued by the Catalan club at around €40 million.

Barcelona has no intention of lowering this price merely to facilitate Balde’s departure, making it a key issue in Manchester United’s interest. While the club is sincerely looking for options at left-back, they do not find Barcelona’s financial demands appealing enough to warrant a permanent deal. Their interest in a loan arrangement represents a strategic move to fill a roster gap without committing to a fixed fee.

However, Barcelona sees little incentive to agree to such terms.

    AC Milan Also Expresses Interest

Recently, AC Milan has shown interest in signing Balde but faced the same financial barriers as Manchester United. Despite inquiries, the Italian club was met with Barcelona’s firm stance on their valuation.

Balde is not eager to leave Barcelona, and this reluctance adds another layer of complexity to a potential transfer. The left-back aims to stay and vie for a place on the team under the current management.

As Barcelona remains open to offers but is not under pressure to accept a loan proposal, and with Balde showing no urgency for a move, the likelihood of a deal with Manchester United hinges on the club’s readiness to meet Barcelona’s transfer requests for a permanent agreement.

Manchester United’s interest in Alejandro Balde has hit a financial obstacle, with the Premier League club understood to believe Barcelona’s valuation of the left-back is too high.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the latest discussions between Manchester United and Barcelona took place on Sunday, with Balde’s agent Jorge Mendes ensuring the English club was aware of the conditions for a potential transfer.

United, who are looking to strengthen at left-back, were primarily interested in taking the Spain international on loan.

Barcelona, though, have made their position clear: they want a permanent transfer if Balde is to leave.

Mendes has informed Manchester United that, as things stand, Barcelona’s preference is a permanent transfer or nothing, leaving the two clubs some distance apart, particularly because Balde himself remains keen to stay at Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old remains under contract until 2028 and is valued by Barcelona at around €40 million.

The Catalan club have no intention of reducing that figure simply to facilitate his departure, but that valuation has become the central issue in Manchester United’s pursuit.

United’s interest is genuine because they want another option at left-back, but the club do not currently consider Barcelona’s financial demands attractive enough to justify a permanent deal.

Their preference for a loan would allow them to address the position without committing to the full asking price.

However, Barcelona have little reason to accept those terms.

    AC Milan enquired too

In recent weeks, AC Milan have also looked into the possibility of signing Balde, but they encountered the same obstacle.

Barcelona are not prepared to lower their financial expectations simply to move the defender on.

Meanwhile, there is another important factor working against a Manchester United transfer: Balde does not appear to be pushing for one.

The left-back wants to stay at Barcelona and compete for regular football under Flick.

While Barcelona are open to offers, they are not under pressure to accept a loan proposal, and Balde’s preference further reduces the urgency surrounding a transfer.

Unless Manchester United change their approach and become willing to meet Barcelona’s demands for a permanent transfer, the deal looks difficult to complete.
