Sunderland AFC has reportedly re-initiated contact with Olympique de Marseille in an effort to secure the signing of Igor Paixão, 26, as reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Current talks are focused on a deal worth approximately €40 million, including bonuses, which aligns with the expectations of OM owner Franck McCourt. Paixão, who has drawn attention for a move to the Black Cats over the past few days, did not participate in Marseille’s recent 2-0 loss against AS Monaco on Sunday due to an injury suffered during the opening match of the Ligue 1 season against RC Strasbourg Alsace, which Marseille won 4-0.

Since joining from Feyenoord for €30 million last summer, the Brazilian forward has impressed during the 2025-26 season with Marseille, netting 12 goals and delivering seven assists in a total of 42 matches across all competitions.
