Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Performance Honored as Ballon d’Or of All Time
The 2008 performance of Cristiano Ronaldo has been selected as the all-time Ballon d’Or winner, as announced on Wednesday (28) on the award’s official website. The event uses the acronym B.O.A.T. (Ballon d’Or of All Time) to designate its victor.
This title is a nod to the popular acronym G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). The public voting process included every player who has claimed the Ballon d’Or accolade at least twice throughout their careers.
In 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo earned his first of five Ballon d’Or trophies while still with Manchester United, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to that year’s Champions League title.
Ronaldo and fellow soccer legend Lionel Messi secured the top 12 positions in the B.O.A.T. rankings. Each vote cast required a contribution of one euro, and many fans chose to cast multiple votes for their favorite players.
A total of 5,009 individuals voted multiple times, broken down as follows:
44 voters cast between 10 and 26 votes;
300 voters submitted between 5 and 9 votes;
4,665 voters contributed between 2 and 4 votes.
