Inter Milan Dominates Como with 2-0 Victory, Manager Chivu Reflects on Team’s Performance
Inter Milan secured a solid 2-0 victory against Como in Serie A on Sunday evening, a result that left manager Cristian Chivu impressed by what he termed a ‘wonderful’ team effort. Despite acknowledging that the past nine matches may not have been ideal, he maintained a positive outlook, suggesting that things could have been worse.
The match featured goals from Pio Esposito and Marcus Thuram, who struck within the opening 20 minutes, establishing a two-goal advantage that Inter maintained until the final whistle.
“This victory was significant as it was our last game before the international break,” Chivu noted, reflecting on the team’s performance. He acknowledged the rigorous schedule, stating, “We’ve had nine games in 27 days, which has taken a lot of energy and produced various ups and downs.”
Emphasizing the need for continuous improvement, Chivu pointed out the importance of resilience: “Sometimes you must swallow your pride, work hard, and prepare with the right mentality for upcoming matches.”
He praised his team for their intensity and quality, especially in the first half, while also highlighting the importance of managing different phases of the game. He congratulated his players for their wonderful display.
Chivu was queried about whether the recent derby loss against Milan motivated the team leading up to this match. He replied, “There’s always room for improvement. You can’t expect perfection at all times. The season is lengthy, filled with many challenges.”
He expressed satisfaction with the squad’s chemistry and accountability, underscoring how they support one another in both victories and defeats. “Things are in the right place,” he remarked, noting that team cohesion and the right attitude are vital as they navigate a challenging and ambitious season.
“After losing the derby, we needed to move forward, unify our efforts, and embrace what is a demanding season,” he added, while also commenting on the past games: “After these last nine games, I can say that we could have certainly done better, but we could have also faced tougher outcomes.”
Inter successfully stifled Como’s usual attacking style during the match at San Siro. “It all starts with the forwards,” Chivu emphasized. “They maintained focus, disrupted Como’s play, and pressed high, allowing us to execute our game plan effectively.”
