Yan Diomande Shines for Real Madrid Amid Vinicius Jr.’s Absence
Real Madrid has seen a notable improvement in form recently, with summer signing Yan Diomande playing a pivotal role. The young winger from Ivory Coast has seized the opportunity presented by Vinicius Jr.’s four-match suspension, establishing his dominance in the left-wing position during this period.
Real Madrid made a bold move by acquiring the 19-year-old from RB Leipzig for a significant fee. Journalist Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sport Germany reports that Diomande’s transfer includes a unique clause: should he win the Ballon d’Or while playing for Los Blancos, the club would owe RB Leipzig an additional €2.5 million.
This clause stemmed from negotiations led by Marcel Schafer, director of RB Leipzig, underscoring the high regard the club holds for Diomande and their belief in his potential. The initial transfer fee stood at approximately €125 million, but with bonuses, it could rise to €140 million.
Diomande’s recent performances have affirmed his worth to Real Madrid. Although he took some time to adapt to the Spanish capital, he has flourished in recent weeks. Last season at RB Leipzig, Diomande netted 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 appearances, which earned him a transfer to Real Madrid. So far this season, he has tallied three goals and four assists in 13 matches, showcasing both offensive prowess and solid defensive skills.
His partnership with Kylian Mbappe has been particularly effective, and his standout performance in El Clasico against Barcelona highlighted his ability to thrive in high-pressure situations. Throughout that match, he consistently challenged Joao Cancelo, exemplifying his growing confidence and skill.
Recently, Diomande also made headlines for an impressive display during training, which has since gone viral. Real Madrid would not hesitate to pay the additional €2.5 million should Diomande achieve the lofty honor of winning the Ballon d’Or. Although he has a long way to go in his career, his trajectory indicates abundant potential.
As the season progresses, it remains to be seen how Diomande’s role may evolve when Vinicius Jr. returns from suspension, but for now, he continues to make a significant impact for Real Madrid.
