Chelsea’s Xabi Alonso Confirms Estevao’s Future Amid Barcelona Interest
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has dismissed rumors regarding a potential January transfer for Brazilian prodigy Estevao, following speculation linking him to FC Barcelona. The 19-year-old forward has faced challenges in securing playing time during the onset of this season, prompting discussions about his prospects in the upcoming transfer window.
Barcelona has shown interest in Estevao since his time at Palmeiras, with reports suggesting they are keeping a watchful eye on his current situation at Chelsea. The Catalan club had considered signing him seriously before he made a move to Chelsea last year. They opted not to pursue Estevao due to their existing player, Lamine Yamal, who shares similar attributes.
The young talent had an encouraging debut season at Chelsea, but this year, he has struggled to make an impact under Alonso. Prior to a match against Manchester United, Estevao had accumulated less than 50 minutes of playtime in the Premier League, and he was not included in the lineup during Chelsea’s recent Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool, raising concerns about his situation.
With Barcelona closely monitoring Estevao’s situation, Alonso has firmly indicated that the forward is not on his way out in January. The Chelsea manager emphasized Estevao’s importance to the team and stated that he remains a part of future plans.
Alonso stated, “Yes, of course he’ll play. It’s a long season and there’ll be opportunities for everyone.” Acknowledging the disappointment of not playing enough, he added, “It’s no secret that all players want to be on the pitch… when one of them hasn’t had enough playing time because of a decision I’ve made, I have to take responsibility.” He ruled out any discussions regarding Estevao’s departure, reiterating, “No, there are no discussions about that.”
Alonso’s statements indicate Chelsea’s intention to give Estevao the time he needs to find his footing within the team, even as the interest from Barcelona lingers. The future playing opportunities for Estevao will be closely watched, amid Barcelona’s continued interest in his growth and development.
