Coritiba Secures First Win Under New Management, Overcoming Vitória 2-0
This Saturday (31), Coritiba took a significant step forward by defeating Vitória 2-0, marking the conclusion of matchweek 33 in the Brasileirão. The game, played at Couto Pereira, saw Coritiba break a seven-match winless streak, thrilling the 23,570 fans in attendance.
The victory was particularly important for Coritiba as it moved the team away from the relegation zone, following the recent dismissal of coach Fernando Seabra. In contrast, Vitória remains the only team in the league without an away win this season.
Chances and Clinical Coxa
Coritiba dominated the first half but struggled to convert their opportunities, with Vitória’s Lucas Arcanjo stopping a shot from Josué in the eighth minute. Vitória managed to test Coritiba’s goalkeeper Pedro Morisco only once before the halftime whistle, showing a lack of creativity in their play.
The second half provided a more dynamic matchup as Vitória became increasingly threatening, leading to opportunities for both teams. However, it was Coritiba that capitalized, with Pedro Rocha scoring in the 58th minute after Arcanjo made a critical mistake. Tinga then extended the lead to two goals with a well-executed set piece in the 69th minute. As Coritiba adjusted to exploit the additional space on the pitch, they seized control of the match, leaving Vitória unable to respond.
