Mikel Arteta Confirms Declan Rice Is Happy at Arsenal Amid Contract Talks
Mikel Arteta has shared an optimistic outlook regarding Declan Rice’s future with Arsenal, while clarifying that a new contract has yet to be finalized. The Arsenal manager expressed confidence that the midfielder intends to remain with the club long-term and noted that resolving his future situation is just a matter of time.
Responding to inquiries about a potential contract extension for Rice, whose current agreement runs until 2028 with an option for an additional year, Arteta commented, “My feeling is that he’s very happy here, in every conversation I have with him, and he wants to continue here for the long term.”
Arteta acknowledged Rice’s remarkable consistency and dedication, stating, “It will be a matter of time before we sort that. He’s been very consistent again. What we are demanding him to do every year is very difficult to maintain. He’s doing it, a big credit to him.”
Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham United in a record-breaking transfer deal in 2023 and has quickly become a central figure in Arteta’s lineup.
The 27-year-old missed the recent match against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup due to a minor injury but has returned to training. He is expected to participate in Arsenal’s upcoming match against Liverpool on Sunday, as the team seeks their first league victory at Anfield in 14 years. If he plays, it will mark his 171st appearance for the club.
