Luis Enrique Rejects Lamine Yamal-Lionel Messi Comparison: “Nobody Can Beat Him”

Headline: Lamine Yamal Shines in Barcelona’s 6-1 Victory Over Deportivo Alaves

In a strong rebound following his recent Ballon d’Or snub, Lamine Yamal showcased his talents with a standout performance, scoring twice in Barcelona’s emphatic 6-1 win against Deportivo Alaves. The young Spanish international consistently posed a threat in the attacking line, supported by notable contributions from teammates Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.

Yamal’s impressive showing has not gone unnoticed, earning praise from PSG’s head coach, Luis Enrique. However, Enrique was quick to dismiss any comparisons between Yamal and the legendary Lionel Messi, emphasizing the uniqueness of Yamal’s development as a player.

Luis Enrique Offers Insight on Yamal’s Development

The former Barcelona manager, who recently secured a victory over the Catalan side, commended Yamal for his resolve to develop into his own player. “I think Lamine, what he’s doing very well, is that he wants to be Lamine Yamal. He’s improving his aspects of the game,” Enrique remarked, as reported by Diario SPORT.

He also expressed that any comparison with Messi—whom he considers the greatest player of all time—does a disservice to young players. “Comparing Messi, the best player of all time, with any other player, nobody’s going to beat him,” he stated. For Enrique, Yamal’s wisdom lies in his focus on self-improvement rather than comparisons. “Lamine wants to be the best version of himself, and it’s best not to compare himself to others. He’s very intelligent,” he added.

Addressing Barcelona’s Overall Threat

Enrique shared insights on strategies to contain Yamal, suggesting that denying him the ball is key. “Very easy, you can’t let him receive the ball because if he does, it’s dangerous,” he explained. However, he underlined that Barcelona’s strength extends beyond Yamal, highlighting the team’s collective talent. “We know they have many high-quality players; it’s not just Lamine. Raphinha, Pedri, Cubarsi, Joan Garcia… there are many,” he concluded.

This acknowledgment from Enrique, considered one of the top managers today, highlights Yamal’s potential as he aims for further success following his absence from the Ballon d’Or shortlist for two consecutive years.
