Grêmio Takes Lead Against Atlético-MG with Goalkeeper’s Assist in Copa do Brasil Semifinal
Grêmio edged ahead of Atlético-MG this Sunday in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semifinal, with Weverton playing a crucial role. The goalkeeper delivered a brilliant long ball that directly set up Carlos Vinícius for the opening goal.
Atlético initially began the match with more momentum, forcing Weverton to save a shot from Cuello. However, the pivotal moment soon arrived. Weverton executed a precise goal kick that found Carlos Vinícius at the opposite end of the field. Misjudging the trajectory of the ball, Lyanco allowed the Grêmio striker to create space and net his 22nd goal of the season.
This assist marked Weverton’s third career assist. His first occurred in 2024 while he was still with Palmeiras, where he assisted Rony in a 2–1 victory over Red Bull Bragantino. Earlier this year, after joining Grêmio, he set up Amuzu during a 2–0 win against Vitória in the first half of the Brasileirão season.
