Sunderland’s Boss Le Bris Remains in Charge Amid Poor Start to the Season
Sunderland’s manager, Regis Le Bris, is set to continue in his role despite a challenging start to the season, leaving the club at the bottom of the Premier League with just one win in nine matches.
PA reported on Monday that the board fully supports Le Bris, who remains an integral part of their future plans, even as pressure mounts due to the team’s poor performance.
After suffering a 3-1 defeat at Coventry on Saturday, Sunderland’s winless streak in league matches has stretched to seven games, during which they have earned only one point from five away games.
The club’s management understands the frustrations of the fans and shares their disappointment regarding several underwhelming performances. However, they believe that Le Bris has the capability to turn their fortunes around.
Le Bris, who previously managed Lorient, enjoyed a successful summer after leading Sunderland to promotion through the play-offs. He also managed a commendable seventh-place finish in the Premier League during their first season back in the top flight after an eight-year hiatus, achieving European football for the first time in 53 years.
Though the team struggles domestically, they have enjoyed a successful run in the Europa League, with victories against AZ Alkmaar and Torreense, alongside a recent draw against Lech Poznan in Poland.
Team officials believe that the additional fixtures have impacted the players’ performances in the league. Nonetheless, they feel that stability and collective responsibility are essential for pursuing their ambitions.
Sunderland will face Dinamo Zagreb at home in their next Europa League match on Thursday, followed by a Premier League clash against Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
