La Liga President Javier Tebas Criticizes Real Madrid Over Negreira Case
Speaking at a public event earlier today, La Liga president Javier Tebas issued strong criticism of Real Madrid, alleging that the club is prolonging the Negreira case to undermine competition within the league. The already strained relationship between Tebas and Real Madrid has deteriorated further in recent times, with both sides at odds.
Tebas’s comments come in the wake of a controversial statement in which he likened the programming of Real Madrid TV to Nazi propaganda, prompting the club to demand his resignation.
“Real Madrid Aims to Undermine La Liga”
After an event in Barcelona, Tebas accused Real Madrid of opposing initiatives introduced by La Liga and using their television platform to inflict damage on the organization and its competitors.
“They oppose everything La Liga does and are causing us great harm with their television,” Tebas stated. “This harm affects not only La Liga but all the clubs in the competition. Their aim is to weaken La Liga in order to promote other competitions like the Super League.”
Tebas did not hold back in his criticisms, asserting that Real Madrid is unnecessarily extending the Negreira case, describing it as being treated “like chewing gum.” He further claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez only began to express concern about the issue once Barcelona withdrew from the Super League project.
“They are stretching the Negreira case like chewing gum. Real Madrid thinks Negreira is in every referee’s dressing room at every stadium where Real Madrid plays. I remind Real Madrid that we went to the prosecutor’s office before they did,” he asserted.
Tebas continued, saying that Perez supported a different club while being a board member after the issue surfaced. “He defended the club of his then-friend while it was in the Super League. The day Barça left, everything changed,” he added.
Tebas declared Real Madrid’s criticisms of Barcelona as “unacceptable,” insisting that the ongoing accusations against the Catalan club must stop. “It must be clearly stated that what is happening with the constant attacks against FC Barcelona is unacceptable because this is a drawn-out affair. Barcelona will have to assume its responsibilities if necessary, but right now, it cannot be blamed for anything because it is Real Madrid that is asking for the process to be prolonged.”
CSD Investigation and China Controversy
Tebas also addressed an investigation by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) into his controversial comments comparing Real Madrid TV’s programming to that of Joseph Goebbels. He labeled the investigation as unacceptable, suggesting that it is a personal attack aimed at him.
“I haven’t received any notification, but if they are acting upon what I said, it’s clear they want to get rid of Javier Tebas,” he remarked.
On another front, Tebas spoke about a recent controversy involving China’s boycott of Real Madrid and La Liga due to comments made by Kylian Mbappe regarding a viral meme. “Mao is revered in China, and that should be respected. Saying that was an offense that we tried to minimize,” he concluded.
