Tenerife Player Hospitalized in Intensive Care Following Injury

Tenerife Striker Jesus de Miguel in Stable Condition Following Serious Injury in Match

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel remains in stable condition in intensive care after suffering severe injuries during a Spanish second division match on Monday. The incident occurred in added time of Tenerife’s home game against Andorra when the 30-year-old sustained injuries to his head and chest following a collision with Andorra’s goalkeeper, Jesus Owono.

According to Spanish media outlets, including Marca, De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported in an ambulance, requiring resuscitation by paramedics en route to the hospital.

A statement from Tenerife confirmed that De Miguel, originally from Madrid, was taken to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and is “stable despite the severity of his condition.” At the time of the incident, the match was tied 2-2, with seven minutes remaining in stoppage time.

The collision occurred when Owono rushed toward the center circle to clear a long ball, inadvertently colliding with De Miguel’s knee. Following the incident, De Miguel lay motionless on the pitch while medical staff provided immediate assistance until he was transported by ambulance from Tenerife’s Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.

Players from both teams displayed visible distress in response to the incident, with several of De Miguel’s teammates visibly emotional. The referee issued a straight red card to Owono before the match was ultimately abandoned.

Andorra released a statement expressing their support, stating, “We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match. We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family, and Tenerife.”
