Barcelona Rules Out 25-Year-Old PSG Defensive Mainstay

Barcelona Eyes Defensive Reinforcements Ahead of January Transfer Window

Barcelona has commenced efforts to strengthen its defense in anticipation of the January transfer window. The club is specifically seeking a left-footed centre-back who can make an immediate impact, prompting connections with various prominent players across Europe.

Top names such as Josko Gvardiol from Manchester City, Lisandro Martinez from Manchester United, and Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan are currently being evaluated by the Barcelona management team. Additionally, PSG defender Willian Pacho has recently been linked to the La Liga champions.

Pacho Not a Target for Barcelona

However, respected transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, cited by FCB World, has moved quickly to quell any speculation regarding Pacho’s potential move to Barcelona. He confirmed that the 25-year-old Ecuadorian defender is not an option, as Paris Saint-Germain has no intention of selling the player.

PSG holds Pacho in high regard and does not plan to list him on the transfer market any time soon. Furthermore, PSG manager Luis Enrique is reportedly a strong supporter of Pacho and has no desire to let him leave. The player himself is enjoying his tenure at PSG and aims to continue winning trophies, having recently signed a long-term contract that extends his commitment to the club until 2031. Consequently, a transfer to Barcelona seems out of the question for the Ecuadorian international.

Barcelona’s Realistic Alternatives

As Barcelona explores options to bolster its defensive lineup, the club is considering several realistic targets for the January transfer window. Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United appears to be a leading prospect, particularly as his contract at Old Trafford expires next summer, which could allow for a reasonable fee in January.

Barcelona’s interest in Alessandro Bastoni remains strong, and the player is reportedly open to a transfer from Inter Milan. However, acquiring Bastoni could pose challenges, as it is expected that a €70 million fee would be necessary for the transfer to materialize, potentially complicating negotiations.
