Barcelona Eyes Aston Villa’s Midfielder Johan Manzambi Ahead of Champions League Clash
Barcelona has pinpointed Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as a key target, with sporting director Deco set to closely evaluate the Switzerland international during an upcoming matchup between the two sides in the Champions League on Tuesday.
As reported by SPORT, the 21-year-old has gained prominence as a standout player within Barcelona’s sporting department.
His notable performances in the Premier League have drawn significant attention, though acquiring him would demand a substantial financial commitment from Barcelona.
This season, Manzambi has demonstrated his skill with three goals and four assists in just eight matches, registering a goal contribution approximately every 70 minutes.
With Aston Villa set to visit Spotify Camp Nou today, Deco will have the chance to assess a midfielder whose growth may position him as an enticing option for Barcelona’s future recruitment strategy.

Manzambi’s rise has been swift, having established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young midfield talents during his time with Freiburg last season.
He recorded seven goals and nine assists in his breakthrough year in Germany, earning UEFA’s Europa League Revelation of the Season award for the 2025-26 campaign.
His success has also transferred onto the international scene, where he scored three goals and provided two assists for Switzerland during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This consistent performance has led to growing interest from Barcelona, particularly with the chance for Deco to observe him during Tuesday’s Champions League encounter.
Aston Villa’s €60 Million Investment Makes Transfer Difficult
Aston Villa secured Manzambi’s transfer from Freiburg in 2026 for around €60 million, with potential additional payments that could elevate the total fee.

This initial investment complicates any potential move, especially considering Manzambi’s long-term deal at Villa Park.
His impressive current form justifies Barcelona’s interest. Achieving seven goal contributions in eight appearances marks a solid return for a midfielder, although these figures fortify Aston Villa’s stance in negotiations.
This situation implies that Barcelona must secure solid financial backing if they pursue the 21-year-old, who made the switch to Villa in 2026.
