Villarreal’s Georges Mikautadze Declares He’s ‘Ready for a Big Club’ Amid Barcelona Interest

Georges Mikautadze Expresses Desire for Move to Bigger Club Amidst Struggles at Villarreal

Villarreal’s Georges Mikautadze has declared himself “ready to go to a big club” after receiving attention from Barcelona during the summer transfer window. In an interview with L’Équipe, the 26-year-old forward, who previously played for Olympique Lyonnais and FC Metz, acknowledged facing a challenging start to the current season.

Last season, Mikautadze had a standout performance, netting 16 goals in 44 matches across all competitions. His move from Lyon was prompted by the club’s obligations to France’s financial regulator, the DNCG, which necessitated player sales.

Interest from Barcelona followed his impressive form; however, coach Hansi Flick was not supportive of the transfer. Mikautadze commented on this attention, saying, “It is flattering and it motivates me even more. It also means that the work is done well. On top of that, since the Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets and the MSN (Messi-Suarez-Neymar), I have been a Barca fan […] but I didn’t think too much about that. I was focused on my pre-season,” reflecting on his admiration for the Spanish club.

Mikautadze Disappointed by Start to the Season

Despite past success, Mikautadze’s current season has not gone as planned. With only five goals in 15 matches this season, he has started just five times in La Liga, leading to feelings of frustration. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “I want to play every match, to be a starter and show that I’m a great striker. When that isn’t the case, or you come off early, you’re disappointed,” indicating his eagerness to contribute more significantly to his team’s efforts.

He also opened up about his aspirations for the future, sharing, “My dream to play for a big club? I started playing football for that reason. I want to have a taste of going even higher. I am 26, but I think that I am ready to go to a big club. I have everything to do it and I try to show it every time. I maybe just need a bit more time,” emphasizing his commitment to elevating his career.
