Headline: Spanish Footballers’ Association Calls for Match Suspension Following Player’s Tragic Death
The Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) has officially requested that the RFEF, LaLiga, and UEFA immediately suspend all football matches scheduled in Spain from November 3 to 9. This request encompasses both domestic games and continental fixtures regulated by UEFA, in light of the recent death of 30-year-old striker from CD Tenerife, an event described by the association as an irreparable loss for the sport.
In support of its appeal, the players’ union references Articles 3 and 158.1 of the federation’s Competition Regulations, which permit the cancellation or postponement of matches under extraordinary conditions. The AFE emphasized that there are significant circumstances in which sports activities should be set aside.
The proposal aims to delay the next weekend’s matches in the First and Second Divisions, pushing the resumption of football activities to November 10. As of now, the governing bodies have yet to make a final decision regarding the proposed suspension following this unfortunate incident.
