OGC Nice Aims to Extend Rising Star Djibril Coulibaly’s Contract
OGC Nice is making efforts to extend the contract of their promising young player, Djibril Coulibaly, according to a club official from the Côte d’Azur. Coulibaly, who is just 17 years old, was discovered by Nice in 2023 while he was playing at the regional level. This season, he has secured his place as a regular starter in the squad managed by Olivier Pantaloni, having participated in seven of the first nine matchdays of Ligue 1.
Coulibaly’s sporting director, Roger Ricort, noted his importance to the team, stating, “He’s a first-team regular who doesn’t start every match.” Despite having a contract that runs until 2028, the club is eager to secure his future for a longer term. However, their ability to retain him hinges on the team’s performance this season.
“We’ll reach an agreement to extend his contract and I hope he’ll pass that famous 70-match milestone for us,” said a club official, who is also aware of the potential interest in Coulibaly from other teams in the coming months. “If we don’t qualify for the Champions League, we’ll lose him. Because he’s a player of that calibre.”
Currently positioned eighth in Ligue 1, OGC Nice’s prospects of holding onto Coulibaly rely on delivering strong performances throughout the season. The team narrowly avoided relegation just a few months ago, adding pressure to their campaign.
