Jack Grealish Unavailable for Everton’s Clash with Coventry, Confirms Moyes
Jack Grealish will not participate in Everton’s upcoming Premier League match against Coventry on Friday, according to manager David Moyes. The 31-year-old midfielder, who is on loan from Manchester City, has missed the team’s last two fixtures against Newcastle in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup due to what the club describes as a “breach of club discipline.”
Following Everton’s victory at St James’ Park on Monday, Moyes expressed that Grealish still has a future with the club but was uncertain about his timeline for returning to the squad.
In a press briefing on Thursday, ahead of the match against Coventry, Moyes reiterated, “No, Jack is not available. I wouldn’t give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon.” The manager and the club have been discreet regarding the situation, which reportedly stems from an unauthorized absence from training.
Initially, the club stated that Grealish was absent on Monday due to a lack of fitness, although Moyes indicated that he could not provide further details at that moment. When questioned about whether the upcoming international break could assist in resolving the issue, Moyes stated, “We just need to wait and see how things go.”
Grealish, who aims to revive his career at Everton after a mixed tenure at City, has a high-profile past; he transferred to City for £100 million in 2021. Having contributed significantly to City’s 2022-23 Treble-winning season, he is out of contract at the end of this season. Last year, during a prior loan spell at Everton, Grealish found the net twice in 22 appearances but faced challenges due to injuries. He returned for a second loan this season but had only managed six appearances before the recent issues arose.
