Swansea Receives Triple Injury Boost Ahead of Blues Clash

Swansea City’s Stephen Welsh Cleared of Serious Injury Ahead of Birmingham Clash

Swansea City received encouraging news regarding the fitness of centre-back Stephen Welsh, who has been cleared of significant injury. Following a challenging moment with Ebou Adams during Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth, there were fears that the Scotland international might have sustained knee ligament damage. Thankfully, scans indicated that Welsh is not facing a major issue, allowing for the possibility of his participation in Saturday’s match against Birmingham City.

In addition to Welsh’s recovery, Swansea also noted the return of wingers Moussa Yeo and Eom Jisung, both eligible to play against the strong Blues side. However, midfielder Stephen Eustaquio will remain sidelined due to a groin injury, while Melker Widell is out with a minor hamstring issue that led to his substitution at half-time during the recent game.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos confirmed, “Welshy’s scan is clear. It’s just really a bad knock so there’s nothing major,” stating that the injury was painful but not a cause for concern. Matos also mentioned that a final decision on whether the 26-year-old will join the Scotland squad during the upcoming international break will be made later.

Eustaquio, who sustained his injury in the recent 4-0 victory over Blackburn, will forgo national team duty with Canada, leaving Swansea hopeful for his availability in the match against West Bromwich Albion on 21 November. Meanwhile, Widell is projected to return for that match, while Yeo will be back after missing the last three games due to a hamstring problem, and Eom is fit again following his recent injury.

Matos added that captain Ben Cabango, who missed training ahead of the Portsmouth match due to a fitness issue, is available for the Birmingham match. He acknowledged the current challenge of managing multiple injuries, saying, “You need to learn how to deal with the situations and that’s it. It’s hard to manage, but we will find a way of course.”
