Thomas Tuchel Calls Up Ben White as England Prepares for Nations League Matches
On Friday morning, England announced Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming November international break, featuring notable inclusion of Ben White.
White has participated in only one England squad since 2022, joining during the March break earlier this year. Since then, he has been unable to continue due to injuries, missing subsequent selections over the summer as well as in September and October.
During a media briefing on Friday, Tuchel explained his rationale for recalling White now that he has recovered from his injuries.
“When I speak to him I always feel the hunger to come back and the excitement,” Tuchel said. “He missed the last camp; he’s a standout player for Arsenal in a position where we struggle with injuries, and we have a lot of changes.”
“Now Trevoh Chalobah is not in camp, making Jarell Quansah half a full-back and half a centre-back in camp; that gives Ben the opportunity to impose himself again,” he continued. “Every time I watch Arsenal, I see a very strong Ben White in this position, and that’s why I think he deserves to open a new chapter.”
The squad also includes four other Arsenal players: Ezri Konsa, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, and Eberechi Eze, which means Noni Madueke has been left out.
Bukayo Saka is also absent from the squad, with an expectation that he will not return to action before December.
England aims to progress to the knockout stages during this break, with two Nations League matches scheduled. Tuchel’s side will host Croatia on Thursday, November 12th, followed by an away game against Spain on Sunday, November 15th.
