Fermin Lopez Praises Lamine Yamal as Barcelona Prepares for Atletico Madrid Clash
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has lauded his teammate Lamine Yamal, declaring him the best player in the world during an interview with Mundo Deportivo. The 23-year-old La Masia graduate recently reached a milestone by making his 150th appearance for the team in their recent victory over Aston Villa. In the discussion, he touched on the challenges of competing for a place in the squad, especially with fellow player Dani Olmo, and shared insights on the team’s recent performance.
On Partnership with Lamine Yamal and Olmo
Fermin explained that Lamine Yamal has expressed a preference for playing alongside him due to the mutual understanding they have developed on the field.
“Having a friend off the field also enhances our rapport on the pitch,” Fermin noted. “When you know each other well, it simplifies communication during games. I am very happy to play with him because, honestly, he’s the best.”
The midfielder acknowledged the competition for playing time with Olmo under head coach Hansi Flick.
“It’s a really good competition because he’s a very good player,” Fermin said. “We both strive to make the most of our opportunities and do what is best for ourselves, while maintaining a strong friendship.”
On Team’s Form and Recent Losses
After starting the season strong with an impressive record of 11 consecutive wins, Barcelona faced setbacks with back-to-back losses to PSG and Real Madrid. However, the team rebounded with wins over Alaves and Aston Villa. With an upcoming match against Atletico Madrid, concerns about their performance against top teams remain.
Reflecting on the loss in theClasico, Fermin admitted, “We weren’t sharp and did not play as we had been. Everyone thought we would win easily, but Real Madrid can beat anyone on a good day.”
He emphasized that the recent defeats served as a wake-up call but expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “We still have a long journey in the league, and I’m sure we will achieve great things.”
Regarding their Champions League aspirations, he added, “We don’t prefer to see ourselves as favorites, especially with formidable teams like PSG in the mix. We fought hard in that match, and although we made some mistakes, we believe we can compete at that level.”
Fermin concluded with a message to Barcelona fans, expressing gratitude for their support, both at home and away. “We truly appreciate your unwavering support, and we promise to give everything for you this season in hopes of bringing home glory.”
