Jose Mourinho Tells Javier Aguirre ‘Don’t Be Sad’ After Real Madrid Beats Valencia
“Don’t be sad because my players are much better than yours,” Mourinho told the media, recounting his remarks to Aguirre.
He clarified that his statement was not intended as a criticism of Aguirre’s coaching abilities, but rather as an acknowledgment of the individual quality of the players at his disposal.
Mourinho went on to commend Aguirre, describing him as an experienced coach capable of effectively leading his teams. However, he noted that having higher-quality players is a significant advantage when competing for victories.
“The problem is not Aguirre, who is a great coach with a lot of experience, but that Real Madrid’s players are very good. And coaches who have players like mine are closer to winning,” Mourinho explained.
In this way, the coach emphasized that the disparity between the two teams was more so a matter of the resources available rather than the expertise of the coaches.
The rapport between the two coaches was evident in their comments leading up to the match. Javier Aguirre expressed his admiration for Mourinho’s career, showcasing his respect for him.
“He is a very good friend, a good coach, and I only have words of gratitude for him. He has always been a gentleman with me; he has made history, and he deserves all my respect,” the Basque coach stated prior to their encounter.
