Following his appearance on the bench for Arsenal in midweek, defender William Saliba will not participate in Saturday’s match against Hull City. This news has generated some concern among fans of the Gunners.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta clarified that Saliba’s absence is due to limited squad spots available for Premier League matches, as well as a strategy to provide Saliba with game time in the upcoming under-21 fixture.

“He needs some minutes,” Arteta stated. “Obviously, the Champions League allows you to include more players on the bench, but we believe the best course of action is for him to get some playing time with the under-21s this weekend. This will also ensure he is fit for the international break.”

The Arsenal u21 team is scheduled to confront Aston Villa at Meadow Park on Sunday, with kickoff set for 14:00 GMT. Arsenal has committed to streaming the match, allowing fans to watch Saliba’s performance.

However, it’s important to note that the u21 squad has struggled lately in the Premier League 2, currently sitting 26th out of 31 teams, following a 4-1 defeat to Leicester City.

The team has yet to secure a league win this season, although they have achieved two victories in the EFL Trophy. Saliba faces the challenge of leading the u21s toward their first league triumph this Sunday.

Defender Marli Salmon is expected to partner Saliba in defense, having recently received a call-up to the England u18 squad, ensuring a solid pairing in the central defense during the match.
