Cape Verde President Confident Ahead of World Cup Clash with Argentina
Cape Verde’s President, José Maria Neves, expressed confidence in his team’s abilities as they prepare to face reigning world champions Argentina in the 2026 World Cup round of 16. Neves stated that Cape Verde is not aiming to simply participate but intends to make a significant impact in the match scheduled for July 4 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
Neves boldly predicted a 1-0 victory for his national team. “We came to the World Cup to write our own destiny, to face the champions,” he remarked, alluding to the challenge posed by Argentina and star player Lionel Messi.
The president affirmed that the players are fully committed, emphasizing their belief and hope. “They have 100% belief, 100% hope, and their shirts will be drenched with sweat,” he said, highlighting the team’s determination to compete fiercely.
While acknowledging the strength of their opponents, Neves rejected the idea of his team being labeled as underdogs. He reiterated that Cape Verde will play to win, regardless of Argentina’s prestigious status. “I believe Cape Verde can beat Argentina 1-0,” he stated confidently.
