Belgium Edges Senegal in Thrilling World Cup Round of 16 Showdown

The Belgian national team secured a dramatic victory against Senegal in the round of 16 at the World Cup, clinching the win with a late penalty awarded following a VAR review.

Details: In the 117th minute, Senegal’s Lamine Camara brought down Youri Tielemans in the penalty area. Despite the initial non-call, referee Said Martinez was prompted to review the incident on the monitor after Belgium’s Dodi Lukebakio struck the crossbar.

After consulting the replay, Martinez reversed his decision and awarded the penalty in the 121st minute. This late turn of events dealt a crushing blow to Senegal as time was running out in extra time.

Tielemans confidently stepped up and struck the ball into the top corner, scoring in the 125th minute. His goal secured a 3-2 victory for Belgium, allowing them to advance to the next round.
