Senegal’s Early Exit from Tournament Leaves Team Disheartened
The Teranga Lions faced frustration following their elimination by Belgium in the round of 32. Coach Pape Thiaw’s squad experienced a significant letdown after a promising start to the match.
Midfielder Habib Diarra, who opened the scoring, expressed his disappointment at the final whistle. He noted that while the team began strongly, they could not sustain that momentum throughout the game.
Diarra emphasized the need for self-reflection among the players, stating that they must take collective responsibility for the outcome. “We had a good first half, but it wasn’t enough. Matches normally last 90 minutes. We’re very disappointed. We’re devastated. It’s very hard,” he shared, adding, “We’ve only ourselves to blame.”
Despite leading 2-0 until the 85th minute, Senegal ultimately lost 3-2, a heart-wrenching result for the squad.
