Thomas Tuchel Seeks Answers Over Jarell Quansah’s World Cup Ban
England manager Thomas Tuchel says he has received no explanation for the two-match World Cup ban handed to defender Jarell Quansah.
Fifa upgraded the England defender’s suspension to two games for “serious foul play” after the referee issued a red card during the team’s victory against Mexico.
The ruling forces the Bayer Leverkusen player to miss the quarter-final match against Norway and a potential World Cup semi-final, should England progress.
Tuchel previously criticized the officiating at the tournament following the Mexico match, describing the tournament referees as “not good enough.”
Despite this, the England manager does not believe his public comments influenced the duration of the ban, even though he remains frustrated by the lack of clarity regarding the decision.
“I don’t think so,” Tuchel said when asked if his criticism impacted the punishment. “We also have no explanation.”
In a significant boost for the squad, Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, and Reece James returned to training on the eve of the match.
James continues his recovery from a hamstring injury, while Rice previously dealt with an illness and Guehi managed a hamstring issue, both having missed earlier training sessions this week.
All three players may feature as England prepares to face Erling Haaland and Norway in Miami this Saturday evening.
“We had everyone available in training. That’s the best news,” Tuchel added. “We have the full choice except for our suspended player [Quansah].”
Jordan Henderson remains with the England camp while he recovers from surgery on a serious arm injury sustained during the celebrations following the Mexico win.
