Controversy surrounds Bellingham’s goal after Skycam contact goes unnoticed
Norway is expressing disbelief following a match where England benefited from a significant officiating error. Although Jude Bellingham’s equalizer was technically impressive, officials should have disallowed the goal based on a correct interpretation of the rules.
The incident occurred after a goal kick by England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The ball made contact with a wire belonging to the Skycam system, yet neither the on-field referees nor the VAR team detected the interference.
Erling Haaland and several of his Norway teammates immediately signaled that the ball had deviated from its expected flight path. Despite these complaints, the goal remained on the scoreboard, reportedly because officials found no clear evidence of a touch at the time. However, during the second half of the match, multiple images showing the contact between the ball and the wire began circulating widely on social media.
