Breel Embolo Sees Red Following VAR Review in World Cup Quarter-Final

Dramatic scenes unfolded during the World Cup quarter-final in Kansas City around the 70th minute.

Switzerland had just leveled the score at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Dan Ndoye, placing significant pressure on the world champions, Argentina. However, a major turning point followed moments later. After reviewing VAR footage, referee Joao Pinheiro dismissed Breel Embolo with a second yellow card.

The Swiss striker, already carrying a caution from earlier in the match, received the second yellow card for a dive. The dismissal resulted in an automatic red card.

Embolo appeared to grasp the reality of the situation only seconds later. The former Gladbach player struggled to contain his emotions and burst into tears on the pitch. His teammates must now navigate the final stages of the match against Argentina with only ten men.
