Raffi Quirke Joins England Squad for Argentina Test
Scrum-half Raffi Quirke has joined the England rugby squad ahead of next Saturday’s Nations Championship match against Argentina.
Quirke, who recently moved from Sale Sharks to sign with the Newcastle Red Bulls, replaces the injured Alex Mitchell. Mitchell sustained a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 73-8 win over Fiji in Liverpool.
The 24-year-old also stepped in for Mitchell during this year’s Six Nations tournament after the latter was ruled out with an injury.
Quirke currently holds two international caps. He set a record as England’s youngest scrum-half in over 90 years when he made his debut in 2021.
Last month, he also represented an England XV against a France XV during a Nations Championship warm-up match held in France.
For England’s final summer Test at Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero, head coach Steve Borthwick also retains Leicester’s Jack van Poortvliet and Bath’s Ben Spencer as options at scrum-half.
