Robin Gosens Set for Transfer to Schalke 04
Robin Gosens has agreed to a transfer to Schalke 04 after he was frozen out of the Fiorentina squad during pre-season training, according to reports in Germany.
Club officials informed the player that he no longer fits into the plans in Florence. Consequently, they did not invite him to join the team at Viola Park to work under new coach Fabio Grosso.
Gosens celebrated his 32nd birthday earlier this month. His contract with the Viola was originally set to run until June 2028.
Schalke 04 next destination for Gosens
German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg claims on Sky Sports Deutschland that the clubs have reached a full agreement, and the player has settled on personal terms.
Fiorentina excluded the player from their squad and expressed that they were content to accept a minimal transfer fee to remove his wages from their books.
This transfer represents a significant move for Gosens, as he grew up supporting Schalke 04 and has never played for the club.
He spent the majority of his professional career in Italy. He first arrived at Atalanta in 2017 before securing a €27.4m move to Inter in 2022. He later returned to Germany for a brief stint with Union Berlin in 2023-24, prior to his move to Serie A with Fiorentina.
