Truro City Manager Optimistic About Tyler Harvey’s Goal-Scoring Potential
Truro City manager John Askey expresses hope that Tyler Harvey can regain the goal-scoring form that contributed to the team’s promotion two years ago. The 31-year-old forward marked the beginning of the season by scoring Truro’s opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Maidenhead United in their first National League South match last Saturday.
During the 2024-25 season, Harvey netted 25 goals, playing a crucial role in Truro’s rise through the divisions. However, injury issues plagued him last season, limiting him to just five goals in 25 matches as the Cornish team faced relegation from the National League.
“Tyler, for the majority of the season last season wasn’t properly fit,” Askey shared with BBC Radio Cornwall. “We’re just hoping that he can stay fit for all the season because he does make a difference to us. He’s proven time and time again in this league that he can get goals which are going to be vital for us.”
Formerly a youngster at Plymouth Argyle, Harvey was instrumental in Truro’s ascent from the seventh tier to what was their first-ever season in the fifth tier last term. Askey emphasized that Harvey’s contributions extend beyond just scoring goals.
“He’s got a good football brain,” Askey noted in anticipation of Saturday’s match against Chelmsford City. “Not only does he get goals, he creates chances for other people as well, and when he’s on full form, he makes a big difference to us. We just have to manage his injuries and hopefully he’ll play the majority of the games.”
