Headline: Barcelona Welcomes Back Key Defenders Despite Injury Concerns Ahead of Atletico Madrid Clash
Barcelona continues its preparations for the highly anticipated match against Atletico Madrid on Sunday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The team received positive news regarding player fitness as two defenders are set to return to the squad.
According to Carlos Monfort of SPORT, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen have both been cleared to participate in Sunday’s match against Atletico Madrid. Garcia has been sidelined since last month’s La Liga game against Real Betis due to a thigh injury that also kept him from critical matches against PSG and Real Madrid, as well as subsequent games against Alaves and Aston Villa. In a welcome update, Garcia has resumed group training and is expected to be fit for the matchup against Diego Simeone’s side.
Christensen has been out for nearly two months due to a thigh strain sustained during a La Liga fixture against Sevilla. Barcelona opted to prioritize his recovery, ensuring he is fit to return to action. Reports suggest that he is now ready to make his comeback.
However, Barcelona faces challenges as Jules Kounde has yet to return to training. The French international did not participate in today’s session and was absent from the Ciutat Esportiva, effectively ruling him out for Sunday’s clash. In addition to Kounde, the team will also miss key midfielder Rodri, who sustained an injury during a recent match against Aston Villa. Dani Olmo and Xavi Espart are also unavailable, and Roony Bardghji remains a long-term injury absence.
As Barcelona gears up to face Atletico Madrid, they know a defeat could drop them to second place in the league, as their rivals sit only two points behind them heading into the international break.
