Headline: Bayern Munich CEO Confirms Harry Kane’s Contract Extension Almost Finalized
Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has announced that the much-anticipated contract extension for Harry Kane is progressing, with major issues resolved and only minor legal details still pending. Dreesen made the statement during a press briefing after Bayern’s impressive 6-1 victory over 1. FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals on Wednesday evening.
According to reports from Kicker, Dreesen confirmed that an understanding had been reached with their star striker prior to Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony.
“We’re working on the details,” Dreesen stated, as reported by Kicker. “That simply takes a few days. It’s normal when lawyers exchange the finer points with one another. We had already discussed and negotiated all the important issues before the Ballon d’Or ceremony.”
This development signifies a major step toward securing Kane’s future at Bayern Munich. The England captain’s contract is set to expire at the end of this campaign, and the club has been actively working to extend his tenure.
Dreesen’s remarks suggest that while substantial negotiations are wrapped up, the contract is yet to be officially signed and announced.
Dreesen Highlights Bayern’s Commitment to Kane
Dreesen reflected on the in-depth negotiations that facilitated Kane’s transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023. He noted his direct involvement in the historic deal, which stands as the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history.
He also mentioned the extensive discussions required for Kane’s contract extension, which included communication with the striker’s father and brother. “There were naturally many conversations with Kane’s father and brother back then, and that’s the case now too,” Dreesen explained according to Kicker. “But we both know that we want to extend this arrangement for as long as possible.”
Bayern’s desire to keep Kane, who has quickly become the cornerstone of their attacking efforts since joining from Tottenham, is only natural. The 33-year-old has displayed remarkable scoring ability while also taking on a key creative role.
Kane recently solidified his prominence at the club by winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to earn the esteemed accolade since Michael Owen in 2001.
Ballon d’Or Winner Given Time Off Ahead of Dortmund Match
Kane did not participate in the DFB-Pokal match, as Bayern comfortably overcame Magdeburg. Interim head coach Aaron Danks revealed that the decision for Kane to sit out was made after they discussed his workload.
“I spoke to him,” Danks shared with reporters. “He’s played a lot recently.”
Ismael Saibari stepped into Kane’s central attacking role, contributing a goal and an assist in Bayern’s convincing win.
Earlier in the week, Danks expressed his pleasure at Kane’s recognition with the Ballon d’Or, complementing the striker’s achievements while also noting his focus will quickly shift back to the upcoming matches.
Kane is expected to return to Bayern’s starting lineup for the Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening, where festivities to celebrate his Ballon d’Or victory are planned prior to the match at Allianz Arena.
