Headline: Manchester United Gains Opportunity Ahead of Chelsea Clash
Manchester United has received a boost in their preparations for Saturday’s Premier League matchup with Chelsea.
Chelsea faced elimination from the League Cup on Wednesday after losing to Liverpool in a penalty shootout.
Additionally, the team suffered a setback with the injury of key player Maxence Lacroix during the first half of the match.
The 26-year-old defender sustained a hamstring injury shortly after Liverpool’s equaliser and had to be substituted, with Levi Colwill stepping in for him.
The tightly contested match concluded with Liverpool prevailing after the shootout, as Chelsea’s Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha, and Wesley Fofana all missed their penalty attempts.
Following the match, Chelsea’s manager Xabi Alonso stated that it is too early to assess the seriousness of Lacroix’s injury.
However, his cautious exit from the pitch suggests he may face several weeks on the sidelines.
Boost for United
Manchester United is currently experiencing a challenging period, remaining winless in their last eight matches across all competitions and holding a precarious position just above the relegation zone.
The club’s management appeared to be considering a change with head coach Michael Carrick under pressure, but the club’s leadership has opted to provide him with more time to improve the situation at Old Trafford.
While Chelsea has had a stronger season thus far, their injury troubles present a significant opportunity for United to secure a favorable result this weekend.
With 15 league goals already conceded, Chelsea’s defense will be further tested by Lacroix’s injury.
The Frenchman has been a regular starter this season, appearing in all but one of Chelsea’s Premier League matches.
In addition to Lacroix’s absence, Chelsea is also missing their leading striker Joao Pedro, who picked up an injury during training prior to last week’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Pedro has made six starts in the Premier League this season, contributing five goals and three assists.
