Slovenian Referee Slavko Vinčić Set to Officiate World Cup Final
At the World Cup final on Sunday, countless dreams will once again come true. For most of the Spanish and Argentine players on the pitch, it will be by far the biggest match of their careers — one that will end either in the bitterest disappointment or the most incredible joy.
Of course, that doesn’t apply only to the players. Surely every referee also dreams of one day officiating the biggest football match ever. That dream is now coming true for Slovenian official Slavko Vinčić. The 46-year-old has now been selected by FIFA.

It is his first World Cup final — and what it truly means to him is pretty clear in this video of the announcement, published by FIFA:
After being appointed, the Slovenian immediately burst into tears of joy and was congratulated by his colleagues.
Together with his team, he has already officiated the group-stage matches Brazil vs. Morocco and Algeria vs. Jordan, as well as the round-of-32 match between Mexico and Ecuador.
Incidentally, with Bastian Danker as VAR, a German referee will also be involved on Sunday.
