Bruno Fernandes Acknowledges Michael Carrick Was Right to Drop Him in Fiery Interview

Bruno Fernandes Acknowledges Michael Carrick’s Tactics After Manchester United’s Comeback Victory

Bruno Fernandes has dismissed claims that Manchester United‘s recent comeback win against Roma was solely responsible for saving Michael Carrick from being dismissed but admitted the manager correctly benched him for previous criticisms of his tactical decisions.

In the match, the United captain scored their inaugural goal from a re-taken penalty, contributing to a turnaround that saw the team overcome a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2, thereby marking their first victory in ten outings.

However, following their last Champions League match, which resulted in a 4-1 defeat to Como, Fernandes had criticized Carrick for United’s insufficient pressing, a statement that led to him being left on the sidelines as an unused substitute in their next match, a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

Following the victory against Roma, Fernandes expressed his thoughts in a post-match interview with Amazon Prime Video. He revealed, “The manager took a decision of making myself be on the bench because I wasn’t performing, and that’s fair.

“Everyone felt that was a punishment for the words that I had said. And if it was, it was right. The manager is the one that makes the decisions. I have to accept them. I have to go forward with that.

“It doesn’t change the belief I have in the manager and in the staff and every player that is in this club, and it doesn’t change my aim to win every f***ing game that I have ahead of me.”

On Saturday, Fernandes rejoined the starting lineup against Chelsea after discussions with Carrick regarding his previous misgivings. He conveyed his sentiments passionately, stating, “It’s been tough. It’s been a lot of speculation in the media, a lot of lies around many things that have happened in this club between me and the manager, like that we had cleared the air then after when nothing of that happened.”

Carrick has faced scrutiny, reflected in United’s struggle to amass only seven points in the Premier League this season, along with losses in their prior three matches across various competitions.

Fernandes commented, “We don’t need to save anyone’s job. But it was important, he needed that win tonight. The club needed that win, the players needed that win. It’s something that we needed as a group of players together with the staff.”
