Headline: Carlos Vicens Expected to Succeed Paulo Fonseca at Olympique Lyonnais
Carlos Vicens is emerging as the frontrunner to succeed Paulo Fonseca as the head coach of Olympique Lyonnais, according to a report from L’Équipe. Fonseca is set to join Sporting CP.
Discussions involving Fonseca, Lyon, and Sporting CP are reportedly well underway. The transfer deal, estimated at around €5 million for OL, will also relieve the club of the Portuguese manager’s significant salary. During Sunday’s match against SCO Angers, an emotional Fonseca informed his players about his upcoming departure.
Several candidates have emerged as potential replacements, including Thiago Motta and Pierre Sage for the managerial position at Groupama Stadium. However, the prospect of reappointing the Crystal Palace manager was described as highly unlikely.
Currently, it is Vicens who is poised to take the helm at Lyon, having engaged in talks with the club over the past several days. A formal agreement is not expected until after the international break.
Vicens has been without a position since SC Braga relieved him of his duties in late October. Before his stint in Portugal began in July 2025, he served as an assistant coach at Manchester City.
