Charlton Athletic has signed free agent Danny McNamara for his second spell at the club, having been part of their academy as a youngster.

The 27-year-old defender has agreed to a two-year deal at the Valley after leaving Millwall at the end of last season.

McNamara joined the Addicks at the age of seven before leaving the club to play in non-league at 14. He was eventually picked up by Millwall in 2015, during which time he made 166 appearances and scored two goals.

McNamara is Charlton manager Nathan Jones’ fourth signing of the summer window.

“As soon as I met the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. The ambitions of the club and what he wants to build are very exciting, and I want to be a part of that,” McNamara told the club website.
