In a recent report, Quotidiano Sportivo claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi this summer. It has been stated that the Blues will have to rival Manchester United and Juventus in the race to land the Colombian talent later this year.

Lucumi’s Impressive Form In Serie A

Lucumi enjoyed a good run of form in Serie A last season when he put in a series of solid performances for Bologna on the defensive end of the field. The Colombia international scored one goal and secured one assist in 43 matches for the Italian club in the previous campaign across all competitions.

The 28-year-old is currently one of the most talented centre-backs in Serie A. Therefore, Chelsea would do well to lure him to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.

His current deal at Bologna will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for the Blues to sign him on the cheap this summer.

Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Bring Lucumi On Board?

Lucumi is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can use his strong 1.87m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

The Colombian sensation doesn’t mind putting his body on the line to block a goal-bound attempt from the opposition and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back. Lucumi has proven himself to be a decent performer in Serie A. However, there are some concerns over whether he will be able to maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Blues manage to snap him up this summer.

We can expect Lucumi to add more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.

At 28, Lucumi is playing in his prime at the moment. Hence, Alonso should focus on going all out to bring him on board before the end of this transfer window.
