England and France Players Unite in Prayer After World Cup Bronze Final

Players from England and France have been praised for coming together in prayer following their exciting World Cup bronze final on Saturday, where England triumphed with a score of 6-4.

Just days after France lost 2-0 to Spain in the semi-finals, and England experienced a 2-1 defeat against Argentina, Les Bleus faced Thomas Tuchel’s team in Miami.

England secured victory with a standout performance featuring a hat-trick by Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham’s record-breaking seventh goal for England in a tournament, along with goals from Declan Rice and Ezra Konsa.

England led 4-0 at halftime before Kylian Mbappe responded with two goals, along with strikes from Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele. Mbappe’s performance broke the all-time World Cup scoring record, putting him ahead of Lionel Messi in the 2026 Golden Boot race.

Following the intense match, several players set aside their competitive spirit to pray together. England’s Saka, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, and Trevoh Chalobah joined French players Dayot Upamecano, Jean-Philippe, and Maxence Lacroix.

The heartfelt moment sparked online admiration, with former TV presenter Dan Walker sharing his reflections. He remarked, “This is such a beautiful moment from the World Cup. 7 men, from 2 rivals… praying together at the end of their journey this summer. Opponents on the pitch… together in their faith

“Dayot Upamecano, Bukayo Saka, Maxence Lacroix, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, Jean-Philippe Matte [sic], Trevoh Chalobah.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. Ecclesiastes 4 v 9-10.”

Others contrasted the scene with England’s previous loss to Argentina.

“England and France players pray together post-game,” tweeted one user. “[Lionel] Messi and Argentina could never show this type of sportsmanship.”

Another user remarked: “France and England players united together but can Argentina pray like this??”

In England’s match against Argentina, Cristian Romero taunted goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after a long-range equalizer from Enzo Fernandez, running over to scream in his face. Moments later, Lautaro Martinez scored the header that secured victory for Argentina, setting the stage for Sunday’s final versus Spain in New York.
